A Belmar resident was arrested on Monday after surfing for 10 consecutive days in the ocean, authorities said.
According to a press release from the Belmar Police Department, Michael D. Ries was arrested after police responded to a report of a man surfing on the beach Sunday night.
Ries told police he had been surfing for the past two days and was in the water for about 10 minutes.
Police said Ries admitted he had taken a surfboard off the beach, which he said was taken to the beach by a person he did not know.
Police said he was arrested without incident.
No injuries were reported.
